The site which lies with a conservation area forms an edge-of-settlement site in the Georgian market town of Melbourne, Derbyshire. The practice was appointed to prepare a detailed application which demanded a sympathetic response to both the character and setting of Melbourne. The practice was appointed for their experience in conservation work and proven track record in delivering high quality bespoke residential developments in historic settings.
The proposal included the demolition of an existing property in order to create 4 new detached dwellings with associated gardens, garaging and off-road parking.
The site consists of 4 executive homes in the Georgian style, complementing the existing characteristics of Ashby Road and the town as a whole. The use of traditional detailing such as brick arches, stone plinths, brick corbels, timber sash windows and lead dormers helped reinforce the character of Melbourne.
