Hallam Land Management commissioned the practice to masterplan the land surrounding Vearse Farm, Bridport, West Dorset. The total site area is 50.2ha comprising of arable farmland and grazing and lies on the western edge of Bridport, a market town and historically an important centre for the production of rope, twine, netting and sailcloth.
The site, the town of Bridport and the surrounding wider landscapes lies within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site is located approximately 1.7 miles from the site to the south and is also within the AONB. The site has many challenges with steep topography and the River Simene with its associated floodplain forming the northern edge to name but a few.
The masterplan forming part of the outline planning application for the development consisted of up to 760 dwellings, 60 unit care home, 4 hectares of land for employment, mixed use local centre, 2 form entry primary school and associated playing fields, areas of public open space including allotments and sports pitches and diversion of Public Rights of Way.
