Trentham Gardens, Stoke-on-Trent

Trentham Gardens formed a part of the multi-use scheme to reinvigorate the Trentham Estate which was predominantly designed by Sir Charles Barry. The practice acted as both master planner and architects for Trentham Leisure Limited.

A phased programme of repair of numerous listed buildings, including the remains of Trentham Hall, is being undertaken. This includes works of conversion and adaptation to permit imaginative reuse of the buildings.

Completed works have included the restoration of the formal Italian Gardens. Working closely with respected landscape architects, we have completed extensive repairs to the balustrades, stone pavilions and the lakeside wall. The bronze, Statue of Perseus was restored by a specialist. This is the only copy of Benvenuto Cellini’s Perseus and Medusa (1553) from the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, sculpted for Cosimo I, Duke of Tuscany. Works included the restoration of the plinth and surround as well as the lakeside steps.

Other completed works include the restoration of the Grade II listed children’s cottage, also by Barry and the creation of Trentham Monkey Forest. Both Trentham Gardens and the Monkey Forest are now very successful regional tourist attractions.
