The creation of a new Garden Suburb in Charnwood, Leicestershire. Our proposal for 200 new homes forms Phase 1 of the development and part of a hybrid planning application for the creation of a strategic urban extension (SUE).

The proposals are the result of an extensive design and masterplanning process of which the practice have had a longstanding involvement. The objective is to create a SUE scheme which celebrates the area’s historic links to the garden city movement and which embraces the social and community values which underpinned its ideology.

The resultant scheme will deliver high quality homes, all of which are set within a strong and unifying pedestrian and cycle friendly landscape framework, creating a unique place to live and work. The development complements local distinctiveness and architectural heritage through a range of bespoke house designs.

The masterplanning process has been founded on a ‘landscape-led’ approach, which responds to the site’s natural landscape features, forming a cohesive and interconnecting green framework within which the development will fit.

In response to this, the detailed proposals seek to positively respond to, and address all green edges and areas of public open space, providing both high levels of natural policing to promote their usage as well as a considered and gradual transition between such green spaces and the proposed homes.
