The site of the former Forest Rock Garage occupies a prominent position within the Conservation Area at the heart of the village of Woodhouse Eaves in Charnwood, Leicestershire. The sensitivity of the site demanded a development of vernacular character and the utmost attention to detail.
The development consists of 11 houses, ranging from two-bedroom terrace properties which front the street in a traditional manner, to five-bedroom detached villas set in a courtyard at the rear of the site.
There were significant height restraints due to the slope of the site and the requirement to respect eaves heights of existing neighbours, but due to the clever use of rooms in the roof four of the 11 properties have three storeys.
A feature of the development is the generous use of local Mountsorrel granite, which was laid by a local craftsman. In keeping with the village's character the roofs are deeply overhanging and richly ornamented with finials and flying trusses, and bold corbelled chimneys; porches and bay windows are decorative, in keeping with the local vernacular; windows are traditional timber casements and bespoke Yorkshire sliding sashes. All the special joinery was painstakingly detailed by the Practice.
The development was commended by the South Staffordshire Partnership (South Staffordhire Design Awards).

Assessment of historic fabric to ensure a secure understanding of the historic fabric, and how appropriate breathable insulat ions and secondary glazing could be sympathetically installed.
Solution: A breathable IWI Sheep Wool Insulation and lime mortar on wood wool. Sympathetic interiors following the completed installation of secondary glazing, breathable insulation, lime plaster and breathable decorations. The property has reduced its winter energy costs and enjoys a more comfortable thermal environment.

CAT A fitout Office project located in Birmingham City Centre which achieved Excellent under the BREEAM UK Refurbishment and Fitout criteria. Careful design decisions chosen alongside consulting with BREEAM Professionals allowed us to achieve the required Excellent BREEAM Rating and achieve a modern, flexible and focus driven working space interior fitout.
Our design teams can identify when thermal modelling software, daylight assessment or building fabric analysis is required for U-value calculation or other aspects of building performance.
